Elisha Joe Atkins


                       Elisha Joe Atkins Was born February 14 1874 in Celina Tennessee in Clay County to Sarah Brummet and Samuel Wesley Atkinson.  According to his oldest Son James Bedford draft card, which states Elisha Joe was born at Butlers Landing near Celina Tennessee. On August 18, 1895 he married Nellie Florence Dyer. According to the 1900 census he and Nellie had 3 children total, 2 living those being James and Joe lee. Total Elisha Joe was the Father of nine children. According to his 1918 World War I draft card he was 5 ‘10 in height and had black hair and brown eyes.  In 1919 he would move his family of 10 to Tom bean Texas located in Grayson County. They lived there later relocated in 1920-21 to Anna Texas on Kings Trail. Elisha Joe was a farmer by occupation, every census I’ve seen states he rented his place of abode.  On May 14, 1939 Elisha died and  He was buried in van Alstyne Cemetery, Van Alstyne Texas. A concrete marker would serve him until his wife’s death and they both got a permanent marker with a pine branch.
